Who it’s for

Built for cars that see real roads

Southern California paint takes a beating from freeway gravel, construction debris and year-round sun. PPF is for anyone who wants the finish to look the way it did on delivery day.

New cars and leases: protect the factory finish from the first mile, before chips start to collect on the bumper and hood.

Daily commuters on the 5, 55 and 405: freeway debris hits the front bumper, hood leading edge and mirrors first. That is exactly where film goes.

Enthusiasts and track days: extended coverage for rocker panels, A-pillars and the lower rear quarters that catch debris thrown by the tires.

Matte and satin paint owners: 3M matte paint protection film protects factory matte paint without adding shine, or turns gloss paint matte.

Drivers who want a new color: 3M Protection Wrap Film changes the look and protects the paint in one film.

Why PPF

What paint protection film does

Paint protection film, often called a clear bra, is a urethane film roughly 8 mil thick that bonds over your paint. It is a sacrificial layer: it takes the hit so your clear coat doesn’t, and it can be removed later by a professional.

Rock chip protection

Built to protect paint from stone chips, scratches and road debris.

Self-healing top coat

Minor scratches and swirl marks in the film disappear when heat is applied, for example with warm water or a heat gun.

Stain resistance

Helps protect paint from bug damage, road tar and automotive fluid stains.

Warranted against yellowing

3M’s 10-year warranty on its paint protection film covers yellowing, bubbling and cracking.

Removable

Film can be taken off later. Professional removal is the safest way, and healthy factory paint is the best candidate.

Coating-friendly

Ceramic coating can go on top of the film for easier washing. 3M approves its 3M Ceramic Coating for use over its film.

Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film Pro Series 200 Matte is 3M’s matte paint protection film. It does two jobs. On factory matte or satin paint, it protects the finish without adding shine. Coverage

Choose your coverage

The front of the car takes the most hits, so most drivers start there and add the areas that match how they drive. Every package can be done in clear gloss, matte or color film. Color film and matte conversions are usually done full body so the finish matches on every panel.

01

Partial front

Front bumper · leading 18 to 22 inches of the hood · matching leading section of both front fenders · side mirror caps

Best for: Protecting the highest-impact zone on a tighter budget

The film ends partway across the hood and fenders. That line is subtle, but it can be visible on some colors.

02

Full front

Entire front bumper · full hood · full front fenders · side mirror caps · headlights

Best for: Most daily drivers and new cars. No line across the hood, and edges are wrapped wherever the panel allows.

03

Track pack (extended front)

Everything in full front, plus A-pillars · leading edge of the roof above the windshield · rocker panels · lower rear quarter panels ahead of the rear wheels

Best for: Heavy freeway commuters, sports cars, lowered cars and track days

04

Full body

Every painted exterior panel: front and rear bumpers · hood · front fenders · doors (including door cups and edges) · rear quarter panels · roof and pillars · trunk lid or liftgate · rocker panels · side mirror caps · headlights

Best for: New vehicles, long-term ownership, color film and matte conversions

Partial panels: Partial front covers the leading 18–22 inches of the hood and a matching leading section of each front fender. Track pack covers the leading edge of the roof above the windshield.

Add-ons for high-wear spots

Add any of these to a package, or protect a single area on its own.

Door cups: the painted pocket behind each handle, where rings and fingernails leave scratches

Door edges: the leading edge of each door, which chips when doors swing open in tight parking spots

Rocker panels: the lower sides that get sandblasted by your own tires

Rear bumper loading ledge and trunk ledge: scuffs from luggage, strollers, groceries and gear

Headlights: helps prevent pitting and chips on expensive lenses

A-pillars and roof leading edge: the edges that face the wind and catch debris

Interior piano-black trim: center consoles and door switch panels that scratch at a glance

Process

How a PPF install works

01

Inspection and coverage plan

We look at your paint under shop lighting, note existing chips, scratches and past repairs, and confirm film and coverage. You get a written quote before any work starts.

02

Wash and decontamination

Hand wash, iron and tar removal, and clay so the film bonds to clean paint with nothing trapped underneath.

03

Paint prep

Film seals in whatever is under it, so prep matters. Light touch-up polishing is part of prep where needed. Full paint correction for heavier swirls and scratches is quoted separately after inspection.

04

Pattern and install

Vehicle-specific patterns are cut from the manufacturer’s pattern software, then refined by hand. The film is positioned on the panel and squeegeed down.

05

Edge wrapping where appropriate

Where a panel allows, film is wrapped around the edges so no film line shows. Where it doesn’t, edges are kept clean and consistent. Small trim or emblems may be removed for cleaner edges when needed.

06

Cure and quality check

A final inspection under lights, edges checked, and an aftercare walkthrough at pickup. Small moisture pockets can appear in the first days and typically clear as the adhesive cures.

How long it takes

Install time depends on the film and the coverage. Front-end packages are the shortest; full body and color film take longer. We confirm your timing with the quote.

Aftercare

Simple care that protects your film and your warranty

First wash: wait a few days after install. We’ll give you the exact wait for your film at pickup.

Wash by hand or use a touchless wash. Skip tunnel washes with brushes.

Keep a pressure washer well back from the surface and never aim it at film edges, which can lift.

Remove bugs, bird droppings and hard-water spots as soon as you can.

Minor scratches in the film disappear with heat. To speed things up, pour warm water over the area.

Matte film: use a pH-neutral soap and skip waxes and polishes, which can leave shiny spots.

Want a coating on your film? Ask us about ceramic coating. 3M approves its 3M Ceramic Coating on top of its paint protection film.

Come back if you notice a lifted edge or damage, and we’ll take a look.

Warranty

Manufacturer warranty coverage

Film warranties come from 3M, not the shop, and each one has its own terms, care requirements and registration steps. Here is what 3M publishes for the films we install.

3M Pro Series 200 Gloss (clear)

10-year 3M consumer warranty against yellowing, bubbling and cracking

Key conditions: Registered with 3M at install; non-transferable; US and Canada only

3M Pro Series 200 Matte

10-year 3M consumer warranty against yellowing, bubbling and cracking

Key conditions: Registered with 3M at install; non-transferable; US and Canada only

3M Protection Wrap Film (color)

10-year 3M consumer warranty on vehicles against yellowing, bubbling and cracking

Key conditions: Professional installation; non-transferable; US and Canada only

3M’s warranties cover the film, not the paint beneath it. They exclude dents from rocks and road debris, misuse, accidents, ordinary wear and paint pull during removal. Full terms are published by 3M.
